According to the Confederation, the remnants of sugar in Ukraine as of 1 January 2010 amounted to 1.27 million tons, up 20% less than for the same date in 2009.
“Changes in the volume (stocks of sugar -Ed.) immediately show up on the price situation,” - says.
At the same time in the VAR believe that the current market situation may lead to an increase in the volume of growing beet in 2010. In particular, experts believe that the area of sugar beet this year could increase to 410-440 thousand hectares (in 2009 - 327,6 thousand hectares). Given such prospects, a confederation calls on the authorities to provide real support to producers of beet and warns against the decision, considerable excitement in the sugar market, namely the increase in the existing tariff quotas for preferential import of raw sugar. For the current year it is set in the amount of 267 thousand tons.
